Undertaking exams can be a daunting process for any student, not ment those who suffer from Dyslexia. One way to ensure you enter your exams as prepared as possible is plenty of revision. This will also help you to approach your exam dates with less anxiety. If you’re dyslexic here are some revisions tips to make your revision more successful too.

Make handy review cards, be concise

If you like to make revision notes as part of your exam preparation, try and keep things concise. You can’t physically fit much onto a review card which makes them great for keeping your notes short and sweet. Bold statements and memorable paraphrases will make things easier to remember during an exam.

Organise your revision materials

Trying to get focussed can be a nightmare when you have many different books and lesson notes to refer to, so getting everything organised before you begin will make concentrating a lot easier. Make sure all your topics are separated and organised in an order that makes sense to you. For example, if you’re studying three sciences keep each set of biology, chemistry and physics notes together so as not to cause unnecessary confusion.

Understand frameworks

One exam could cover a wide range of topics within any given subject, so there’s often a lot to take in. Make your life simpler by breaking things down and looking at the greater picture. Try to understand the outer framework of a topic and then the smaller portions within it.

Read past papers and try practise tests

Nothing can prepare you better than completing past examination papers of the subjects you study. They can help you get used to the tone of questions and, if undertaken using the exam time restrictions, can get you used to exam pressure.

Discuss topics with friends

While preparing for your Easter revision, sitting down with friends and discussing exam topics can be a really nice, relaxed, way of revising. Take it in turns to ask each other questions and everyone can dip in with answers until you’ve decided upon the perfect summary. Why not swap further revision tips with your mates as well.

Memorise

Whilst the tips above are good for reminding yourself of your subjects in general and giving you an all-round deeper knowledge of your topics – sometimes you will need to memorise equations, ideas and properties. The best way to do this is to recite sections over and over again out loud or in your head until it seems to stick.
